Two-Week Online Refresher Course in Current Studies concluded
Amritsar: Two-Week Online Refresher Course in Current Studies (Natural and Social)’ was concluded in the Guru Nanak Dev University. This course was organized by Human Resoure Development Centre of the Univesity. As many as 25 participants from Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, U.P. besides younger participants from Punjab were participated.
Prof. Manoj Kumar, Professor In-charge Examinations was Guest of Honour on this occasion and presided over for the Valedictory Ceremony. Prof. Sudha Jatinder, Director HRDC & Chairperson, Department of Hindi gave details about the course and Dr. Rajvir Kaur Bhatti, Deputy Director HRDC welcomed Guests & teachers. Prof. Sudha Jatinder congratulated the participants for having chosen HRDC-GNDU and completion of their course successfully.
Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Course Coordinator & Chairperson, School of Social Sciences of the University presented a brief report of the learning outcomes of the two-week online refresher course. Prof. Kumar while presenting the report of the two-week Online Refresher Course, recalled the Inaugural address by Prof. Hardeep Singh, Dean Academic Affairs in which he emphasised on three current scenarios: Physical, Environmental and Life Sciences which demand extra attention on part of academic fraternity. Prof. Kumar highlighted that the thrust areas of the course were covered by around 30 plus resource persons from different fields like: New Media; Information and Cyber Security; Open Education Resources, Corporate Social Responsibility; Gender, Agriculture; Sustainable Development Goals; New Pedagogy of Education; New Education Policy, Artificial Intelligence: A Sociological Perspective; Global Diplomacy, National Security; Climate Change; Conflict, War and Peace, during their deliberations with the participants for two weeks except Sundays.
In this address, Prof. Manoj Kumar said that “This Refresher Course is a platform for common sharing of knowledge and where you can learn from others to improve your insights”. Prof. Manoj Kumar rightly drew the attention of the participants towards the duties of being a teacher and highlighted that it is important for a good teacher to be a good listener as it always gives us space to enhance our knowledge. Prof. Manoj Kumar further added that it is the time for promoting interdisciplinary research and the methods of research should be designed in such a way that it enhances the quality of the research. He also mentioned that on times of a pandemic, it is a must that we switch over to the online mode of teaching, research and examination and try to make it more relevant in tune with fast changing times. He also showed his concern for the massive loss of life during the pandemic and urged that how the academicians and teachers can contribute their best to improve the quality of life around.
Participants of the course too shared their feedbacks about the training they received during their two weeks engagement with the HRDC-GNDU. They were highly appreciative of the way the course was organised and the specialised content that was delivered to them and thus their objectives got fulfilled and their skills stood enhanced. Coordinator, Prof. Kumar said that HRDC, GNDU has been successful enough in the conduct of many such Refresher Courses in past including the present one and has been constantly trying to keep pace with the constant flow of information and knowledge in the 21st century, specially in the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic. The Valedictory Ceremony ended with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Course Coordinator, Prof. Rajesh Kumar who extended his gratitude to Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu.
