Jalandhar: BTech Biomedical Engineering student at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Kunwar Sahi has won second prize at the prestigious national level ASB Ideathon competition- 2021 held in Noida (UP). Near 200 competitors from all across the country had presented their innovative ideas & skills. In this out of the box thinking competition, student-entrepreneurs got the opportunity to get assessed their dream business ideas for commercial viability. A panel of the eminent industry and entrepreneurship experts of the country made evaluations, and declared the winners. The title of the winning startup idea of LPU student is “NeuroX Technologies”.
In December 2017, Hon’ble President of India Ram Nath Kovind warned of a potential “mental health epidemic” in the country, with 10 percent of its strong population having suffered from mental health problems. Poor awareness of mental health symptoms, social stigma, lack of adequate resources and facilities stop people from getting the help they need. So, a novel framework is required to address these issues, while being highly patient, specific, affordable, and as an assistance to clinicians as well as patients. On this, a well-defined entrepreneur within LPU student Sahi emerged, and hence it resulted in the successful startup idea- ‘NeuroX Technologies’.
‘Ideathons’ are basically startup/business plan competitions where students pitch their ideas, and venture to investors for investment, networking, marketing and recognition. For this competition, there were multiple rounds back-to-back within an hour. Here investors and judges personally interviewed participants to know well about their ventures.
Thanking the Entrepreneurship Cell at LPU’s Division of Student Welfare for guiding, Kunwar Sahi shares: “LPU nurtured my competitive skills and provided me with a rare opportunity to participate in national competition for startups and business plans. This victory has encouraged me much, and now I will further strive to win more of such competitions. The day is not far behind when I will be able to see my own idea converted into a solid creativity.”
In fact, LPU students are not only grabbing coveted job opportunities, internships but also exhibiting their inner potential to plan their unique businesses under the mentorship of their teachers at the university.
Illustrative, the innovative ideas for this competition were judged on the basis of the technical, social, environmental, economic feasibility; potential of scaling up; and, acumen in financial planning. For this, evaluators were from different domains including venture capitalists, bank managers, operation heads, owners of successfully running startups and more.
