Jalandhar: Botany and Environment Science department of DAV University organized a webinar on “Challenges to Ground Water Management”. Dr. Raj Bala, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany and Environment Sciences started the event with a welcome speech followed by Gaytri Mantra and the motive behind the webinar. Dean Academics officiating Dr. R.K. Seth introduced the speaker Dr. Sunil Mittal, Dean school of Environment and Earth Sciences, Professor and Head of the Department of Environment Sciences and Technology, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda.

DAV University Vice-Chancellor officiating Dr. Jasbir Rishi welcomed the speaker and emphasized on the importance of groundwater advise our students to inculcate awareness about the conservation and rational use of water among the public. The webinar was attended by 100 participants including students and faculties from various disciplines.

According to Dr. Sunil Mittal, the insufficient amount of rainfall is responsible for the inadequate amount of water in rivers and canals. Groundwater is over-exploited for the paddy crop in Punjab which is a serious concern. In Punjab, almost all the drinking water parameter values exceed the acceptable limits. The higher concentration of Uranium, Arsenic, and Lead like carcinogenic chemicals in groundwater may pose a health risk to the local population of the Punjab region. The entire session was very interactive and informative.

Dr. Ashish Sharma HoD, Botany and Environment Sciences thanked the worthy Vice Chancellor officiating Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Registrar officiating Dr. K.N. Kaul and Dean Academics officiating Dr. R.K. Seth for their constant motivation and support in organizing academic activities. He also appreciated Amarjeet Aryan, a student of B.Tech 2nd Semester for leaflet design and Dr. Raj Bala for successfully organizing the webinar. Dr. Raj Bala ended the session by requesting all participants to read loudly an Earth Anthem penned by poet Abhay K.
